Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Pak Ou - Kuangsi - Luang Prabang
Day 1. Arrival – Vientiane – City Tour – Buddha ParkPick up at the airport and then we explore Vientiane capital by visiting the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. En route to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, you will have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. The final visit of the morning will be the excellent COPE exhibition centre, highlighting a much overlooked aspect of Laos and a major problem many of the local people face on a day to day basis in the form of unexploded ordnance as a result of heavy bombing campaigns during the Vietnam War era. An optional lunch can be taken at the excellent Mak Phet Resataurant, which helps to train disadvantaged youth for a career in the hospitality industry. This afternoon we visit the quirky yet impressive Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow. They were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe and return to Vientiane. A spectacular view of the Mekong River at sunset is a perfect way to finish the day.
Day 2. Vientiane - Vang Vieng (B)This morning we travel by the picturesque back roads to Vang Vieng. En route we stop at Ban Keun, which is famous for its salt mine. Here you can learn about the daily working life of the local people. We then continue to Nam Ngum, a picturesque lake created by damming the Nam Ngum River. Following lunch overlooking the lake, we continue north, stopping at Tha Heua, a small village that specializes in dried fish, which you will see hanging in front of the houses. We then reach Vang Vieng by mid afternoon, where we have time to visit the picturesque Tham Jang cave, which offers stunning views of over the Nam Song River and surrounding karst scenery. The rest of the day is at leisure
Day 3. Vang Vieng - Explorer (B,L)This morning we visit the Tham Jang (Freezing Cave), the biggest cave in of Vang Vieng which offers stunning views of over the Nam Song River and surrounding karst scenery. Then we take a local long -tail boat on the Nam Song River for about one hour to visit the Organic Farm known for its sericulture as well as mulberry tea and wine production. Enjoy tasting! Later, we continue to visit the famous caves around Vang Vieng which include Tham Xang, (Elephant Cave) lies on the opposite banks of the Nam Song. It is an important Buddhist temple and owes its name to a remarkable limestone formation. The nearby Tham Hoi cave (Snail cave) winds its way deep into the mountain. One hour of exploration through numerous corridors end at a crystal clear spring Tham Hoy, and the next beautiful cave Tham Loup (Deep cave), this cave is known for its many stalagmites and stalactites. We return to Vang Vieng and free at leisure in the afternoon.
Day 4. Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang (B)We leave Vang Vieng this morning, making a short photo stop at Phatang Mountain view point to admire the beautiful scenery. We also have an optional stop at Koe Kuang, which boasts a local forest market, offering edible snakes, rats and assorted reptiles! We also make a stop at Ban Hin Ngon, a picturesque Hmong village, before arriving at Phou Khoun for lunch time. In the afternoon we stop to explore Ban Kiu Kam Pone, a Khmu village, and we have an opportunity to stretch our legs at the picturesque riverside village of Ban Nam Ming. We arrive in Luang Prabang by late afternoon.
Day 5. Luang Prabang – Pak Ou – Kuangsi Waterfall (B)After breakfast, we board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which gives us a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside. Our first stop is the village of Ban Muangkham where we start a short walking around the village for learning the daily activities and then continue cruise up the Mekong to discover the Famous Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. In the afternoon we transfer by road to the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We then return to Luang Prabang by early evening in time for a sunset view over the Mekong.
Day 6. Luang Prabang – City tour – Departure (B)After breakfast we visit the Royal Palace Museum which hosts a range of interesting artifacts , We then begin our temple tour taking in some the cities most beautiful, including the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, representing the classical Luang Prabang style and Wat Visoun known as ‘The Water Melon Stupa’ due to its shape. Before lunch we have a chance to visit the silversmith workshop. Transfer to airport
